Cafes/Restaurants

There are plenty of places to eat in Coogee, with a number of excellent cafes, bistros and restaurants along Coogee Bay Road and on each side of the Beach. Coogee’s food scene is cosmopolitan. The offer ranges from Italian to Thai, from Tapas to Churrasco and can mostly be classified as casual and relaxed with one or two exceptions.

As Coogee Sands Hotel & Apartments offers limited food (room service breakfast between 6.30am and 9.00am), for the convenience of its guests it has negotiated charge back arrangements with a few local eateries, listed below:

Coogee Bite Cafe – Modern Australian

A hop, a skip and a jump around the corner from the hotel and you’ll see Coogee Bite’s terrace beckoning. Superb view, quick service, all day breakfast and a menu offering something for everyone make it a favourite of the locals.

Barzura Cafe and Ristorante – Modern Australian

On the other side of Coogee Beach opposite the hotel, Barzura has since its opening in 1994 gained an outstanding reputation among locals and tourists from afar. If you enjoy friendly service, amazing views and an extensive modern Australian menu this is the place for you. Voted the number one destination in Sydney to impress tourists in August 2007, in the Good Living section of the Sydney Morning Herald.

Tapas Rocs – Spanish with a twist

A recent addition to the Coogee food scene this restaurant has already established itself as the new “in” place in Coogee. Open only at night it offers an imaginative and tasty interpretation of the Spanish tapas theme. Order two or three of their tasting selections and share with friends.

Deep Blue Bistro – Modern Australian

The menu of this restaurant, just up from Barzura, raises the bar of what is commonly known as “bush tucker”. Market fresh produce are integrated with native bush foodstuff to deliver mouthwatering dishes.

Here are some other restaurants in or just outside Coogee that our guests visit regularly:

  • A Fish Called Coogee - Seafood
  • Churrasco – Brazilian
  • La Spiaggia – Italian
  • Rice – Thai
  • Sauce Bar & Grill – Modern Australian
  • Takeya – Japanese

For a great “foodie” experience, you cannot go past Restaurant Balzac in Randwick, just awarded 2 Chef’s Hat in the latest Sydney Good Food Guide in September 2007.

Bars

Coogee’s two largest venues are the Coogee Bay Hotel with its large Beer Garden and the Beach Palace with the Aquarium and its terrace facing the ocean. Cushions on Arden Street is an elegant alternative.
