3-7 January 2009 - NSW batsman Michael Clarke scored his maiden SCG Test century hitting 138 as Australia defeated South Africa by 103 runs in the third Test. Australia finally claimed a dramatic victory with only 10 balls remaining after South African captain Graeme Smith returned to the wicket after earlier breaking the little finger in his left hand. Despite batting for 28 minutes and defying 17 balls from the Australian attack, left arm paceman Mitchell Johnson finally bowled the gallant Smith to end the game
